About Us

Welcome to the CES School Counseling webpage! My name is Kristina Stacey and I have been the School Counselor at Carrolltowne Elementary since 2010.

Professional Background:   I earned my bachelor's degree from Johns Hopkins University with a major in Interdisciplinary Studies.  I earned both a master's degree & Certificate in Advanced Study in School Counseling from Loyola University. I hold a Maryland certification in School Counseling as well as Supervision of Counseling.  I will be finishing my Administration I certification this spring.  In addition, I am the Coordinator of School Counseling for McDaniel College and Adjunct Professor teaching multiple graduate level courses each semester.

Personal Information:  I am a busy mom of three boys! Logan is a senior at University of MD College Park studying to be a Physician Assistant (Go Terps!) Evan is a freshman at the University of Southern California (USC) studying to become a doctor (Go Trojans!)  Tristan is the only one left at home and is a 10th grader at Liberty High School.   He plays baseball in town, so I may see you on the baseball field!  I very much like to travel and do so often, especially to any Disney Park!

My office hours are Monday – Friday 8:45 – 4:15. I can be reached at 410-751-3530 or KristinaStacey@carrollk12.org if you have any questions or concerns.  Please keep in mind that I am the sole counselor to 650 students so my response time may take 24-48 hours.  Thank you for your understanding!

MISSION:  Carroll County Public School Counselors facilitate the academic, career, and personal/social development of all students. School Counselors are integral members of the instructional team. They directly impact student achievement by delivering comprehensive services that meet the needs of the 21st Century school community.

VISION:  Professional School Counselors are uniquely trained leaders who promote success for all students. They collaborate with school stakeholders using data-driven decisions to facilitate the success of the 21st Century learner in an ever-changing society. As a result the student will:

·         achieve to his/her maximum potential

·         demonstrate academic, career and personal/social problem-solving skills

·         recognize and appreciate individual and cultural differences

·         develop communication, citizenship and employability skills to make positive contributions to the community

·         access human and technological resources for support and information

What types of school counseling supports are available to students?

·         Individual Counseling- A process where I meet with students to discuss issues in a safe, positive, and confidential setting. Topics are based on the needs of the student and may include: feelings, changing families, peer pressure, friendship problems, academic achievement, bullying prevention and awareness, getting along with others, problem-solving, character development and decision-making. School counseling is short term counseling for issues that are causing academic distractions.  For long term, family, and/or for issues that are happening at home, I can provide a list of mental health counselors in the area.

·         Small Group Counseling- A process where I meet students, sharing similar issues and concerns, working together in a small group environment consisting of about 4-7 peers. The group sessions usually last about 30 minutes and are held for approximately 4-6 weeks. Topics are based on the needs of the student population and may include friendship and social skills, and anger management.

·         Classroom-Based School Counseling Curriculum- A process where I develop, schedule and implement K-5 classroom curriculum. This K-5 curriculum addresses social, emotional, academic, and career-related needs. Teaching developmental skills using age-appropriate, classroom-based lessons. Topics may include conflict resolution, study skills, anger management, career awareness, tattling/reporting, friendship/social skills, responsibility, respect, teasing, bullying prevention and awareness, feelings, cooperation, decision-making, school success skills and peer pressure. Each homeroom receives one counseling lesson per month for 20-45 minutes depending on the grade.

Additional information regarding the school counseling office at CES:

  • School counseling is short term and meant to help students who have a school/home concern that is affecting them academically.  For long term, family, and/or issues that are happening at home only, I can provide you with a list of mental health counselors in the area and other resources.
  • Each homeroom class will receive one monthly classroom counseling lesson on different topics that are data driven and need based.  At the end of each monthly lesson, students will have a letter from me stating what they learned that day so you can extend their learning at home.
  • Attendance is important and 94% is the expectation for CCPS.  I am aware that children may be reluctant to come to school because of anxiety or other emotional concerns.  If this is the case and you want or need support from the school, please contact me.

Recently, we have seen an increase of parents stating their child will be taking a “mental health day”.  Please know that we take the mental health of our students seriously.  Our administrative assistants will forward me this information and I will be in contact with you to see how I can assist as well as checking with your child when they return.
